Because for over 25 years, they have been dedicated to delivering healthy skin results through education, innovation, and professional recommendation, not through advertising, frilly packaging, promises of miracle cures, or overblown hype.

Dermalogica’s many advantages include but are not limited to sun damaged skin, aging and anti-aging skin, dryness and redness as well as a host of other skin conditions.  In addition, this product line is great for both women and men.

JANE D. WURWAND is the founder and owner of Dermalogica as well as The International Dermal Institute.  She is recognized worldwide as a key innovator who not only developed the industry’s number one professional brand, but who has also changed the nature of the skin care profession itself. Today, Dermalogica has grown to become the leading professional skin care brand, used by more than 75,000 skin therapists in over 80 countries around the world.

Dermalogica products are manufactured in the USA, and never take part in animal testing.   Dermalogica is sold only where professional consultation and professional treatments are performed by professional skin therapists.

  • Looking Young by Exfoliating Your Skin

    0

Immediately after using an exfoliator on your skin, it will glow and feel smooth and soft.  That’s because you have buffed away the layer of dead skin cells that accumulate throughout the day.  Buffing this dead skin away will keep it from clogging pores which can lead to blackheads, whiteheads and acne.  Buffing away the dead skin cells (along with excess dirt and oil) can also help reduce or prevent the appearance of fine lines by gently removing the first layers of skin.

It is no secret that clean skin that has been treated properly throughout its life will age more gracefully, looking young and healthy as it ages.  You should be using the appropriate exfoliator on your skin at home twice weekly (unless otherwise advised by your skin care professional) for the removal of dead skin cells, excess dirt and oil to keep your skin glowing and the fine lines at bay.  It can also help with acne since it works at keeping pores clean, one of the main culprits of acne.  Additionally, it is important to see your skincare professional for more intense exfoliation as recommended by your esthetician.

At The Spa at Ethos, we have several products that will help aid you in your home-care routine including Naturopathica’s Oat Facial Polish and SkinCeuticals’ Micro-Exfoliating Scrub. For help in selecting which will work best for you, email our Spa Director, Denise, denise.wekarski@ethosfitness.com, and she will be happy to assist you!  Additionally, feel free to call 201-251-4500 or ask for her at the front desk!

  • Getting a Vibrant Complexion with Microdermabrasion

    0

The skin is made up of two layers: the dermis and epidermis.   The epidermis is also referred to as the stratum corneum.  The stratum corneum is the outermost layer of the epidermis, consisting of dead cells.  The purpose of the stratum corneum is to form a barrier to protect underlying tissue from infection, dehydration, chemicals and mechanical stress.   In general, the stratum corneum contains 15 to 20 layers of dead cells.  It’s important to your skin’s health to remove this excess dead skin so your skin can absorb the skin care products you’re using.   The best way to get rid of dead skin without being too invasive and without having any down time is Microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion may be performed to decrease the appearance of superficial hyperpigmentation or photo-damage, to diminish fine lines, wrinkles, and shallow acne scars, and to remove dead skin.  Removing the dead skin will aid in the penetration of skin care products by up to 50% and make-up will go on much more smoothly.   In addition to eliminating old cells, this process eliminates damaged and contaminated cells that carry pollutants and micro-organisms from the environment.

Imagine a very fine sand blaster and you’ll get a picture of how microdermabrasion works. It uses micro-particles, or a diamond-tipped wand, to slough off the top layer (epidermis) of your skin and stimulate new skin growth.  This technique also helps to thicken your collagen, which results in a younger looking complexion.   Collagen is a protein in your skin that’s abundant when you’re a child and makes skin appear taut and smooth.  Collagen production declines as we age, resulting in looser, uneven skin.

At The Spa at Ethos, we recommend doing a series of 5 treatments for best results.  Our Skin Care Therapists can help get you on your way to a more vibrant complexion. For more information about Microdermabrasion call the Spa at 201.251-4500 and ask to speak to our Spa Director, Denise Wekarski or review our spa menu for packaging and pricing.

  • Getting smoother looking skin with enzyme exfoliants

    0

You may cleanse, tone and moisturize like clockwork, but have you tapped into the benefits of exfoliation?

Exfoliants help get rid of dead, dry and dull skin cells that can build up on your skin.  If you’re already familiar with exfoliation, then you might automatically think of scrubs like pulverized walnut shells, oatmeal or lactic and glycolic acid.  But there’s another lesser-known class of exfoliators that’s growing in popularity for its gentle effectiveness: enzymes.

The most popular and commonly used exfoliating enzymes are naturally derived from pineapple, papaya and pumpkin.  However you may also find enzyme exfoliants derived from mushroom, fig, cherry, raspberry, grape and pomegranate.

While our skin naturally sheds dead skin cells, the process slows with age and it’s common for dead cells to build up if we don’t assist in the exfoliation process.  When dead cells accumulate, dullness and uneven skin usually result.  The solution is to incorporate regular exfoliation into your skincare routine.  Your skin will absorb products better, look smoother and you’ll notice a boost in overall brightness and glow.

Another major advantage to using an exfoliant that doesn’t scrub or rely on acids to peel is less chance for irritation.  Depending on the acidity of the product and whether or not additional chemical exfoliants have been added, expect your skin to tingle — this is not cause for concern.  Another great advantage of using an enzyme exfoliator is that it is excellent for people with acne.  With traditional “scrubs” you run the risk of spreading bacteria when acne is present.  Not only will you keep from spreading acne with an enzyme exfoliator, but the enzyme will also help to kill bacteria which in return will help keep breakouts under control!

If you have any questions regarding what products would best benefit your skin, please do not hesitate to speak to any of our estheticians or email Denise Wekarski, Ethos Spa Director, (denise.wekarski@ethosfitness.com) to schedule a quick skin analysis.  Our estheticians would be more than happy to assist you with any skin care questions you may have.
